You search for your own business, it isn’t first, and it stings. Good news: first place for a broad search isn’t the goal most small businesses should chase.
Why broad searches disappoint
A search like “plumber” or “accounting” brings people who might be anywhere, wanting anything. A search like “water heater repair in Lehighton” brings fewer people, but they’re ready to call.
Chase the specific searches
- Write down five things a customer would type to find you. Include your service and your town.
- Pick one phrase per page of your site.
- Put that phrase in the page title, the first paragraph, and one heading.
- Add your town and service area to your contact page.
- Ask three happy customers for an honest review.
Measure what matters
Don’t just watch where you rank. Count how many calls, form messages, and orders came in this month. Write the number down and compare it next month.
Free and paid tools
Google Search Console is free and shows which searches bring people to your site. An SEO tool can help you keep track once you’re ready for more detail.
The goal isn’t being seen. It’s being found by the right people.
